2. Straighten

Seiton or Strengthen or sometime called simplifying. Previously we have complete the process to sort the items and remove waste that we have in the house or workplace. If you are one of the hoarders in life for a long time, and this is the first time you have reduced your items in the house, then I personally applaud you. It is not something that you can do naturally, but as in anything in life, it is our habit that builds and dictate how our life is. Once our habit, then our life changes. So, let’s us including me commit to performing step 1: sort on a daily basis. We really need to always think about whether there is enough space for everything that we bring to our home and workplace. We have limited keep and workspace. Unless you have Dr Who’s TARDIS in your backyard, then managing space is a satisfaction guarantee when action is taken.

How do you do it

So, how do we straighten and set to order the space that we are in after we have removed the unnecessary items. Somebody did ask me why can’t we arrange immediately the item that we have? My simple answer is why do you need to do things twice. If you do not remove the unnecessary item, then you’ll be arranging your items in a place which is cluttered. One day, you will remove the unnecessary item around your work area, and then what? Re-arrangement is needed.

Once all the unnecessary item is removed, now is the time to remove waste in your workspace or work area. Think of it as a way to make your life more efficient and happy. According to the standard study, there is 8 major waste that you need to eliminate or reduced when you are straightening your space to make it in order.

Do you really need the broken chair or sofa? Even if you plan to repair and recycle, the location should be at the store, not in your workplace. Good stuff only please. Be safe.

Waste due to Waiting

Why design a workspace where you need to wait for something to occur. Design multi tasking or parallel processing. Safe time and with a happier you. Be bold in your arrangement.

Waste of Unused Talents

Why only you need to know the order of which things are. Create a system where everybody could join in. Bring along you family and colleague in the journey, It’s a good deal.

What next?

Above is the step in getting your house or workplace to be straightened. Know the waste that you have currently in the arrangement, be it in the kitchen (mostly), living room, dining room, bedrooms or study room (more could be done here!). With that have a thought on what would be the best way to reduce waste in different form. It would improve your life definitely.
