How to maintain space

Now that you feel all your pre-loved items, your memories are at jeopardy, how can you maintain the space while still moving on. Could kitchen planner be the first thing? Okay, first thing first, if you have a feeling that the items need to be kept because of memory, think about it again, are you trying to keep the item or the memory. If the memory of it, then take a picture and move forward. Yeah, I know that keeping physical items is not the same as the picture, but are you happy keeping with the physical item or it is much better just to keep the memory.

Another thing that could be considered is having a fixed amount of items within your space. Go into the habit of when you want to buy new clothes, shoes or whatever in the house, then you need to sell, donate, dispose or transfer your new purchase to another person. This will ensure that you only have a fixed amount in your wardrobe. This could also be used in the kitchen especially to maintain certain stock or inventory. Create a system of flow for this purpose. We’ll be covering this in the blog. So, for an easy way to remember.

Buy One, Remove One

One of the ways to ensure that enough space is held at one particular time is to consolidate the available things in your house based on the item types – clothing of the same type, stationary of the same type, food of the same time etc. Why we need to do this is sometimes, we have more than enough stock in the house for particular items. We keep on buying new because of our poor retrieval capability. Seriously a good retrieval capability is at 30 seconds. and how many of us are able to find the item we want on-demand within 30 seconds. But, at the same time, imagine if that could be done, the strain in relationship husband/wife, partners, friends, siblings could be reduced tremendously. When I did this the first time I was amazed at how many scissors I could find in the house. More than 30 of them with different sizes, and different condition. I find 30 scissors everywhere. An interesting sight.

Take all your items in one place and show it.

On top of that, how do we actually maintain space. By having a proper planning. Doing a good enough job in planning will ensure that we could maintain the space that we are in. Imagine, if when we first started to build the kitchen using a kitchen planner or modeller, and we already decided:

  • Is the socket suppose to be there
  • Do you know the size of the refrigerator, oven and so on.
  • Choose you utensils, is it all there
  • How many small and large equipment in the kitchen we want to have
  • And even how many plates is enough for the next 10 years.

What would be different then?

A simple kitchen planner have solve all of our space maintenance issue! Because we already plan for them.

In the end, what is most important when we want to do something with our items is to go to our feeling and gut feel on the item. The question remains. If I am not going to use the item for the next I year or even 2 years, should I keep. NO. Transfer it to somebody else. Sell it. Recycle it. Donate it. Whatever it is have a feel of the item you are sorting, it if makes you happy keep it, if it does not remove it. Do I need to keep the dress, give it to someone else or sell it? Does it depend on what feeling you have for the product? The main purpose of the gift is for you to be happy, and not another way around. We are already happy with the gift. It has done it’s job. So, the next job is for you to use them or pass to somebody who would be much happier than you to use them. I purposely put the picture of Naruto Umazaki in the picture, he is an orphan from birth and would do anything to be successful. What would you do to make yourself happy?

See time, feel happiness and embrace the feeling. See it and feel it then keep it.

In the end it all depend on you!!!!
