Basically in 5S everybody need to be a cleaner. Previously, we have covered earlier on getting the cleaning space done from common to the individual tool, but how do we sustain all these large areas to individual tools. How do we ensure that all are done well and we could have those tranquil and serene lives that are proposed?
In order for that to happen somehow, we need to have a certain schedule, and I not talking about the schedule made like the flight or the train schedule. We would simplify those. What is important here is we know when to check, do it and figure out creatively how to reduce the frequency.

How do we measure
So, for us to get into the habit of cleaning we need to somehow measure our Cleaning, Lubrication, Retightening (CLR) state, either we know and memorize them mentally (this is sort of a joke) or put is somewhere visible yet not fully public. (who want to show off their CLR status anyways haha)
In this case you could create sort of CLR standard as below, and reduce the frequency once you see fit. We’ll be covering in our blog how we could reduce the CLR duration through various examples, work and proposals.
But, for now just imagine below is the few sign you put discretely in your space/home/office such as stars, triangle, pentagon, square, moon, diamond and cloud. Figure out as a cleaner how can you increase the frequency significantly.
Breaking down into labels
Daily (star)
This is something that you need to do daily, such as washing dishes. You could put a star near all those needed daily CLR as a sign. Think how to make this more efficient.
Weekly (square)
This is where you need to do CLR activities on a weekly basis. Stove is one of the example where you could do this. Enure the place is clean, and the knob is tightened.
Fortnightly (diamond)
It may be too late, but for those without children, a fortnight vacuum cleaning may be enough. But, the rate may be different for each room, evaluate this as a cleaner.
Monthly (moon)
It may be good that we clean our computer monthly. The gems itself could be enough motivation for this. Your PC would thank you for this and better long term.
Quarterly (triangle)
The motor of of your favorite fan could fail sooner or later. I learn this the hard way. DO clean the fan on quarterly basis, check that all are tight and swing forward.
Biannual (pentagon)
Without thinking, water is important. So, checking that the filter is clean, all connecting tubes are sealed and the pump is fully lubricated would make an efficient filter.
Annual (cloud)
Air Conditioning unit, a must to be cleaned, lubricated and tightened on a yearly basis. Mold and dew will cause sickness and moving parts will be loose needed action.
So, that is some of the proposed sign and the items/equipment that you could do for this purpose.
Key Ideas:
Try to figure how how to reduce your cleaning need due to contamination. Use HEPA filter if needed, change the ceiling if that helps, teach kids to clean immediately after use.
Add as well lubrication and re-tightening to your schedule. This is important especially those parts which are moving such as air-conditioner, fan, ovens etc. As said earlier ignoring minor defect will cost you more.
