Achievement Level

Now, we move to the 5S step of what to do, let’s go into what can be achieved by moving through the 5S journey. Do download the 5 Level 5S description if you have not to download them.

Moreover, check out, in the description there is 5 Level of 5S from Noob to Zen, which could be achieved once a certain condition is obtained with the Step 1 to Step 5. The level to be achieved come with their equivalent lapel pin which you could be proud of. All these pins are from Amazon.com and the links in this post are affiliate links.

Level 1: NOOB

Level 2: HUB

Level 3: EAGLE

Level 4: LOYAL

Level 5: ZEN

As expected, it is our hope that you would follow the journey with us. As there are 5 levels to the journey, try to do it in the speed that you are comfortable with. 1-2 year is the norm. We hope that at least you are proud to wear the lapel pin of honor to showcase your level of 5S achievement. Hence, you could promote such culture in the house and in the home office.

Unnecessary Items

These are few strategies to transfer your unnecessary items that could be followed:

Return to original owner

You have borrowed the items for quite some time, and the original owner is looking for them. Now it is a good time to return all those borrowed back to their owners.

3R – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Do consider reduce (remove two, buy one), reuse (creatively convert your plastic tub) and recycle (sent as new material).

Donate

One of the greatest thing that you could do is to donate. Sort out and sent to different location in your area orphanages, library, NGO store.

Give it to social enterprise

What a nice way to put it, pass your unnecessary item for it to improve another person’s life. Give it away so that social enterprise could flourish.

Sell

Yes, why not sell it on ebay, amazon, shopee, carousell etc, or site like etsy for your re-used creative products. You’ll be amazed with the results.

Dispose

This is the final way of removing, disposing. But, need to be done properly – electronic, large items, perishables etc all have different route.

Making things to order

These are few strategies for arrangement or setting things to order:

Reason for label

Think about why you do labels. To let other people know what it is, and to let you know when something is missing. Work from that perspective.

Put it together

People of the same kind love to be together, so does your items. As much as possible put them all in one place. Make it easy for you and others.

See it through

Privacy vs. Transparency, to have a good arrangement. Privacy allows for clutter, while transparency allows for arrangement. Try in between.

Frequent and important on top

For drawers it is best if you could arrange your frequent and important item on top to reduce motion and searching, a waste in 5S.

Get everybody involved

Get everybody involved in arrangement in their space. Give responsibility even to kids. Only when everybody are involved that things get done.

Know the limit

We need to know what is the limit for all our containers etc. . For a good arrangement, the limit is to be identified. Who says over flow is good?

CLR

These are few strategies that could be used to have a good cleaning, lubrication and re-tightening (CLR).

Create a schedule

It is important that a schedule is create for CLR. Put it in google calendar, in front of your fridge, label, star them. Make CLR reminder obvious.

Have your tools ready

Correct tools is important. Ensure that cleaning rag, lubrication oil and tightening tool is available for work. Wrong tool is a disaster.

Use correct cleaning agent

Bleach, laundy detergent, soap are not multipurpose for everything. Different mess require different detergent. Best to know them.

Remove noise

Don’t settle for noise in you equipment PC, fan, air-cond, door etc. They are screaming for help lubricate, tighten if required. Wait you loose.

Removable Parts

When installing a dispenser. Think about how you are going to clean them. An removable and detectable system is key to cleaning and hygiene control.

Deviation

These are the strategize to make it obvious to detect a deviation in the space that you are in will be discussed next.

Obvious

Can you see the obvious different colors between red and green chilies. That is what it meant to make it obvious. In one glance you know it!

Deviation

Deviation is important in 5S. The arrangement helps to check out any deviation that could happen. So, that it can be corrected fast.

Think arrangement

Arrangement helps in FIFO order and Kanban. Use them to ease life in managing inventory. Label is needed but not always. Decide prior.

Tighten to standard

Checking regularly, on the moving parts would make our life better. Hinges and bearing is one of the parts to check on a regular basis. Adjust standard.

Standard Liquid Code

The industry uses a specific cleaning liquid, and container for different area and need. Why should home be different. Standard your color code.

Dashboard Is They Way

Aircraft, car, helicopter all have dashboard. That is how they make it obvious. A dashboard in the house could be a solution you are looking for.
