That is an interesting topic. How does a hoarder house looks like? Why do we hoard? This reminds me on the tissue paper which is out of stock for all the major supermarket or the gardenia bread which is running at 90% capacity due to spike in demand. Due to corona people hoard, due to worry. But do we really need to? The main thing is our scarcity mentality have started to take hold of our mind. If we have an abundance mentality this would not happen!!!

Previously I have covered slightly on this, and we have discuss that keeping and hoarding are almost the same thing, except hoarding is doing the same thing to an extreme. But, why do we hoard? One of the reason is that we feel that we need to keep everything, the feeling of lost if we did not keep those that we find, buy or keep without permission (I am not condoning this – just for illustration point of view). We have a feel that every physical thing have a link to our internal feeling, and that linked is the one that keep us with the items that somehow make us a hoarder. Have any body been to a hoarder house and see how it look?

So, what can we do then, in general we need to feel happy when we keep something that thing need to have a strong feeling and meaning to us – that is the 5S way of keeping, along with the specific such as excessive, broken, outdated, broken, dirty and old. But, these two technique is just a guide. Most of the mistakes is for us to use the guide as an ultimatum, for our decision. We need to think why we keep a certain items – does it make us happy and does it is useful for the next 1 year for example. We need to take the 5S Step one as a total concept to use and sort our items and our through.

What is why I believe that we need to always have an end in mind, else nothing will more as first we are going to feel overwhelm and second being overwhelm we go into a fight or flight mode. In most cases, if we go into flight mode we just ignore them, or if we go into fight mode, we throw away everything, both of which is as bad.

We need to be rational on our choices, as well as our heart. Use our instinct and our heart to make the decision. That is the way we choose our partner any way right? So, one of the biggest mistake when I help others with their space be it personal or business, they want to make it perfect the first time. What is perfect? Do it exist? We are always in a work in progress will we die, so why should cleaning up, and re-arranging be different. As long a we live, we are to improve ourselves that is the aim of this 5S. This would help to reduce the imagined or otherwise a hoarder house that you do not want.

In this case, what we have planned is a 5S plan which you are able to follow in a step by step process. The speed is up to you, but the guide here is to start somewhere, yes it may not be perfect, but who wants to wait for perfect before starting anywhere? That is just crazy!! Like saying, I will wait for the best chicken in the world before I would try one! Does that make sense. But, somehow our thought process seems to be different for different situation. Just start now with the journey, the biggest mistake is not to start at all.

Based on the picture above, how do you start. Its is extremely humbling yet overwhelming right to start the above work. Trust me, if I were to start without a process in place, I would feel the same, and at the end I would not start anything. Because of the feeling, I would let it be, and probably with the grace of the Creator those items will be pass to generations to come and probably the room will be in that condition in the next 200 years. Yup, somebody smile and nod.

In this web I have prepared a step by step process on how to completely perform a good recovery plan for the above condition. A visit to introduction would do the trick to start you in the needed journey. I hope that you would enjoy the journey of improvement coming ahead. I would like to hear your comment good or bad from tying the method. This would really help me to further fine tune the process so that I would help more people improving the space per my tag line: be happy in the space you are in. Do not be the problem, be the solution stop being a hoarder house.
